Ever wonder what it’s like to have laser resurfacing? Behold: (15 second clip)

While I thought this was a still photo (and could have been a lot more engaging had I known it was a vid), I thought it would fun to share a glimpse into a fractional laser resurfacing treatment:

Here's our lovely model about 15 minutes after her treatment:

Buh-Bye, Sun Damage, Enlarged Pores, and Wrinkles… Hello, beautiful!

She's looking shiney and goopy because of the protective ointment applied afterward – and she's looking happy because she's on her way to tighter, smoother, and brighter skin. She'll be reapplying ointment and pink for several days to a week, which varies according to the intensity-level and type of laser treatment.

Until next time, stay fabulous my friends!

Treatment performed under the direction of board certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr Daniel Danahey in Glen Ellyn, IL.

E Experiments: BOTOX in the Bands, aka The Nefertiti Lift

It’s about time I share my experience with ‘Botox in the bands’, aka the Nefertiti lift. My boss, Board certified dermatologist Dr. Quenby Erickson performed the procedure for me, which I love, love, love.

Side note: this use of Botox Cosmetic Is considered off-label, like many of the ways offices use it these days. But not every office offers this treatment. From my perspective, it’s more of an advanced technique, (so do your homework on your provider before trying)

Here’s the scoop:

What is it?
The Nefertiti lift is a non-surgical technique used to make the Neck, chin and “Gobbler” area look smoother and younger by injecting Botox into the platysmal bands. As it turns out, these bands are partly responsible for the downward pull on the lower face (Either side of the chin) and the development of the dreaded ‘turkey neck’.

Ok... it could be worse.

Ok… it could always be worse.

The Treatment:
this simple procedure was done in less than maybe five minutes. It didn’t hurt, and after it was done I went on with my day, not giving it another thought. Dr. Erickson used 30 units of Botox to treat me, but everyone will be different. As the Botox kicked in during the next week /10 days, I started to notice that the treatment made a surprising difference to me.

My Results:
I originally tried this for experience/learning and preventative purposes, But as the effect set in, I noticed a really nice change that I’m really excited about! To me, it looks like there is less tendency for any ‘pulling down’ by the corners of my mouth and chin, in addition to improvement in my neck, “gobbler” area ((technical term?? Ha)). My jawline is more defined in an elegant, pretty way. I’m liking that!

My Favorite Part:
I love the jawline definition I have now, (even though I would not have necessarily listed that as an area for improvement on myself before). Keep in mind, everyone is different, so depending on how many units (I had 30, but I regularly see 50 plus in the office) and how much lift you need, results will always vary. BUT if you have an open mind and would be satisfied with a nice, subtle improvement, this is worth a go!!

Until next time, Stay fabulous, my friends!

You gotta help me, doc! ...BOTOX my bands!

Fun Find: Every Drop Beauty Spatula

Have you ever resented the fact that you can’t reach the bottom of the bottle to get the last drop of really-great-and/or-expensive-fill-in-the-blank product to get the last bit? I have heard anecdotes over the years of women prying open a container of TNS Recovery Complex (and many others) with a pair of pliers. This is probably hazardous… (at the very least you at risk breaking a nail) and is likely not the experience you desire when using a fabulous, cosmetically elegant, and likely expensive-as-heck product.

Don’t be angry at the bottle. It IS just a bottle, after all.  Just get this “Every Drop” Beauty Spatula!

 Don't get angry, get Spatula!

Don’t get angry, get Spatula!

I came across this miniature silicone spatula with when I opened my new ‘the Container Store’ Stocking-Stuffer catalog that came in the mail today. Genius!

The unique shape is designed to reach under the lip of a jar to get every last drop.  It’s washable (reusable) and has a long handle to reach into really skinny/tall bottles or jars. The cherry on top: It’s only $4.99, and is made in the USA. And really, what else do you possibly want from a spatula?!

Happy Shopping! Stay Fabulous, My Friends!

BOTOX for Babies: Part 1- Thin is not always in

Have you been nervous to try an injectable because of bruising or discomfort? Read on…

There is a TOTAL laundry list of ways to avoid little bruises or lessen the slight (and temporary) discomfort from an injectable cosmetic treatment, but here is one of my tips based on my experiences in the office:

Avoid blood-thinning meds and supplements:

Why? Because when the blood is thin, it can flow out of an injured capillary pretty fast, causing a pretty solid new purple beauty mark! Check out my post on what causes a bruise here. This most commonly means avoiding things like:

Ibuprofen

Aspirin

Alcohol

Herbal teas (and Green or Chinese teas)

Gingko

Vitamin E

Fish Oil/Omega 3’s

Medications like Plavix and Warfarin

(There should be a complete list of these blood thinning elements and other contraindications available at your doctor’s office.)

Try to avoid any drugs/supplements known to thin blood for about 5 or 7 days beforehand. However, you should talk to your doctor (don’t just stop because you read a blog!) if you are on those Rx blood thinners, as you’ll want their professional direction about risk vs. benefit.

Don't Pop that (Omega 3) Pill the week before your injection!

Don’t Pop that (Omega 3) Pill the week before your injection!

This is not a complete list of meds to avoid… and your doc will likely have specific post-care instructions for you. This is post is simply meant to be fun and informative- not the authority on your health, so please always follow your doctors instructions, and NOT what you read on the internet! (yes, this blog included!!)

Keep in mind that there are always risks to every procedure, so chat it up with your physician to make sure these procedures are appropriate for you… Stay safe, and fabulous!

Is the MAN keeping you down?? Customize your x15 MAC Pro Palette

Don’t let someone tell you how to organize your shadows… You are the ARTIIIIST, after all!

BEFORE: BORING and limited shadow storage ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz.....

BEFORE: BORING and limited shadow storage
ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz…..

To fit more fabulous shadows onto my Pro x15 palette, I wedged a small flat head screwdriver through one of the empty shadow spaces, and underneath the top plastic piece. I pried it up just enough so I could grip it with my hand…

Go Home, extra plastic grid-thing!
(Who even invited him???)

Be careful here, if you give it too much muscle, it will snap and could fly across the room- possibly injuring an innocent bystander (or you!). Slowly pull one end up, and if you get it just right, that piece will pull right off.

Waaaah-LAH!

Waaaah-LAH!

This can work for many brands of palettes, existing Mac Pro x15’s, and mac palettes that are smaller as well… so play around and see. Mac is making a new ‘blank-canvas’ large palette that you can customize now, I purchased this newer generation palette with an optional plastic liner for lips. Sounds like we won’t be breaking the inserts out of mac pro palettes for long! Good work, MAC.

Thinking outside the box, errr, palette: you can get nuts with products, too: invite your foundation powder to the party, blushes, bronzers, cream blushes, whatever!

Getting crazy here, people

Getting crazy here, People!

Get creative, and let me know how it goes. Until next time, Stay Fabulous my Friends!

Having a Love Affair with Make-up Wipes?

Do you love makeup remover wipes, but hate that they have a tendency to dry out?

Oh makeup wipes... I love you, too. but...

Oh makeup wipes… I love you, too. but…

Here’s a quick tip:

Store your wipes upside down. The cleanser fluid will remain dispersed throughout the top wipes, which are the most exposed to air when the package is opened. I think you’ll find that your wipes will last much longer!

BOOM: thats it! (I did say “quick”, right??)

Enjoy, and until next time- stay fabulous my friends!

Before and After: Temptu s/b Airbrush Makeup

So here is a cute before and after of some airbrushing I did this weekend for a wedding.

This is using TEMPTU Silicone-Based Makeup and a small, relatively inexpensive compressor.  My fabulous makeup artist friend Jennifer Johnson schooled me on basics a while back, and suggested TEMPTU to start my airbrush kit. I’ve been playing around with it for a while and I think I’m in love!

This cutie-pahtootie didn't need too much help...

Gorgeous, Dahling!!!

Gorgeous, Dahling!!!

After Airbrush 2

As you can see, she has beautiful skin and gorgeous features anyway, so she could make any makeup artist look good… but I LOVE the dewy (yet not greasy or shiny) consistency of the s/b makeup, and it wears like a champ!
